Promptu Systems Corporation is a leading developer of innovative voice recognition-based services and products. Headquartered in Menlo Park, CA, Promptu builds natural language speech interfaces for the automotive, streaming media and other markets, and for its own streaming media search product "Viewfinder." Promptu seeks a talented, energetic computational linguist to join our Menlo Park team.

You will work with smart, creative engineers to invent and deploy the company's next-generation speech recognition and understanding technologies. This is a unique opportunity to help build the future of human language technology in a number of emerging markets.

We are seeking either a senior level computational linguist or a recent graduate to be trained. Compensation commensurate with experience.

Required skills and experience:

• Passionate about applying machine learning to analyze and understand spoken and written human language
• Degree in Computational Linguistics, or dual degrees in Linguistics and Computer Science
• A genuine curiosity about languages, demonstrated by an intermediate or advanced working knowledge of a language other than English
• Strong Java and/or Python coding skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
• Fluency in probability theory

The ideal candidate will also have experience with some or all of the following:

• Understanding of automatic speech recognition algorithms
• Working knowledge of additional human languages
• Building statistical language models
• Lexicon development
• Text normalization
• Text summarization
• Meaning extraction
• Linux development
• C or C++ coding skills

You will report to the Director of Voice Technologies.
